BitRooms 1.2 devlog: tents and drones

Greetings! Even though I wasn't really active here for a while, I've been actively working on Bitrooms 1.2. This update is focused on survival elements rather than level expansion, because I want to upgrade existing gameplay and make already available levels more fun. To show that I am not dead, I decided to write devlogs more often.

Tents are a new feature coming in the next version. They can be crafted manually with 2 metal rods (rusty metal rod works too) and 2 new items:  a tent tarp, and 6 tent pegs. Tents provide a shelter from some entities, a place to sleep, and 60kg of storage for your items. They also protect you from harsh temperatures.

Tents aren't very useful in indoor levels (so, most levels), but they are basically necessary on vast levels with harsh environments.

The only level of this kind currently in the game is level 46 - arabian desert. You can read about it in the in-game terminal wiki, or on Wikidot page: https://backrooms-wiki.wikidot.com/level-46 (Keep in mind that the game version is slightly different, especially the day-night cycle). On this level you can use the tent to save yourself from both hot and freezing temperatures, and use it as a base for sleeping and storing your loot.

Tents are also portable, as they can be easily deconstructed, returning all items spent on them, then re-crafted and put in another place.

There is another interesting feature I added with tents: Drones. Like tents, they aren't useful in indoor levels, but they can help with finding structures on vast outdoor levels. They are controlled with another new item: drone controller.

They have an image feed, using the same raycasting code as the camera item, and are much faster than the player.

These two features work together on level 46: as temperatures get extreme and raise over 40C, you can hide in your tent, while using a drone to find distant structures you can loot. Level 46 isn't the only place where drones can be more convenient than walking. With them, you will be able to search for new, rarer structures on level 10, exit buildings on level 11, etc.

These are not the only features I have already implemented in 1.2, and I am planning to make more devlogs to share my work.

If you enjoyed the game, and have some friends who like the backrooms and may like this game, I will be very happy if you share the link with them - that is very important to me. Thanks for reading!
